Listen out for Professor Terry Brugha tomorrow night (or listen again, depending when you read this).

Terry Brugha is Professor of Psychiatry and Director of Research in our Department of Health Sciences, and Honorary Consultant Adult General Psychiatrist with Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. On Tuesday 8 June, he will be a guest on the Radio 4 programme All in the Mind.

Terry, will be discussing the new proposed US system for classifying mental disorders with presenter Claudia Hammond and American psychiatrist Daniel J Carlat, author of Unhinged: The Trouble with Psychiatry.

First published in 1952, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is the American Psychiatric Association's standard reference work for identifying and classifying mental health disorders. The last major revision (DSM-IV) was published in 1994, although there was a minor revision or 'text update' in 2000 (DSM-IV-TR).

DSM-V will not be published until 2013 but it has now entered the first phase of its field trials, which is why the matter is topical.

If you missed Professor Brugha on All in the Mind, you can catch up with the programme on iPlayer.
