Staff from our Student Development office left their desks this week for a day of voluntary work at a local school.

The Volunteering Team from Student Development have been working for three months with Leicestershire Cares, an organisation which promotes corporate responsibility by bringing businesses and communities together for mutual benefit. The challenge that the University team was set involved a garden make-over for All Saints Primary School in Wigston.

Raised vegetable beds were installed in the playground so that children could learn about growing their own food. A pathway with seating was constructed in another part of the grounds with the aim of providing not just a quiet area for relaxation but also a place for scientific study of plants and wildlife.

Travis Perkins, local builders’ merchants, also contributed materials and expertise to the project.
