Peter Wilby is a journalist whose writing appears in in such august publications as the Guardian, the New Statesman and the Times Educational Supplement. He will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Leicester on 16 July.

Born and raised in Leicester, Wilby attended Kibworth Beauchamp Grammar School (now Beauchamp College) and the University of Sussex (1963-66) where he studied History and helped to found a short-lived University newspaper.

He started writing for the Observer in 1968 and four years later became education correspondent. He was editor of the Independent on Sunday from 1995 to 1996 and editor of the New Statesman from 1998 to 2005. In 1984 he edited the Sunday Times Good University Guide and the following year he did the same for the Sunday Times Good Careers Guide. He is also the author of an acclaimed biography of Anthony Eden.
