People with mental illness affected by poorer medical care

If you suffer with a mental health difficulty, our researchers have discovered you may suffer in the quality of preventive care you receive too.

A study led by Dr Alex Mitchell from our Department of Cancer Studies and Molecular Medicine reveals that people with mental health difficulties receive lower levels of preventive screening.

Preventive mass screening is one of the most important aspects of keeping health in check and by not ensuring equal access to everyone certain groups are put at risk. 

The research was conducted as collaboration between the University of Leicester and the Leicestershire Partnership Trust (UK) and it has been published in the journal General Hospital Psychiatry
