Anglepoises invade atrium, surrounding sedate sofas.

With just a couple of days to go until its new building throws open its doors on Monday, the Students' Union has posted a collection of great photos on Facebook showing the unpacking of fittings and furniture in ‘The Square’.

The Square is the vast new atrium at the centre of the Percy Gee Building which will form the social hub of the new building, providing access to the new SU shop Nourish, the fantastic new 1923 restaurant and branches of Ryman, Starbucks and Santander.

Within the Square are some very comfortable-looking sofas and some deeply, deeply cool giant Anglepoise lamps in a variety of primary colours. This will be the place on campus to hang out and socialise.

Not everything within the Percy Gee will be open from Monday - some stuff won't be up and running till the start of next month - but the building should look like an actual Students’ Union rather than a building site. An official opening ceremony will take place early next year.

Shadows no longer chasing any ghosts

Also, please note that the announced first act at the O2 Academy within the Percy Gee Building, Shadows Chasing Ghosts this Sunday, has been cancelled. The first gig will now be Get Cape Wear Cape Fly on Tuesday 21 September followed by the official launch event with leading academic Professor Green on Thursday 23 September.
