Professor Martin Stannard from our School of English has been appointed as the new President of the ‘Lit and Phil’, the Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society.

Martin is professor of Modern English Literature and author of a recent, acclaimed biography of Muriel Spark.

Founded in 1835, the Lit and Phil hosts fortnightly talks on a wide range of subjects across the full spectrum of arts and sciences. Membership is a very reasonable £12.50 p.a. and a quite bargaintastic five pounds for students. All talks are held in New Walk Museum.

Professor Stannard is speaking this evening on ‘Open Secrets: Grahame Green. Evelyn Waugh, Catherine Walston and The End of the Affair.’
