The Decatur Tribune (that’s Decatur, Illinois) reports that Leicester graduate Dr Harold G Jeffcoat has been appointed President of Millikin University.

Dr Jeffcoat has more than 30 years of experience in education, most recently as President and CEO of Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. Born in Nashville, he has a BA and MA in History from the University of South Florida, a doctorate in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Kentucky, and a graduate law degree from the University of Leicester.

Founded in 1901, Millikin University has about 2,400 students studying a range of subjects including Business, Fine Arts and Nursing. Alumni include an Olympic swimmer, the CEO of Caterpillar Inc (which has a factory in Decatur) and the actress who was the voice of Disney’s Little Mermaid. The university is also the home of the National Bird-Feeding Society (‘the ultimate resource for enhancing your wild bird feeding experience’).

Decatur's other newspaper, the Herald and Review, has an interview with Dr Jeffcoat about his plans for the university when he takes up the office in April next year.
