Earlier this week, the New History Lab teased us all by announcing that their mystery guest speaker on Friday would be somebody famous. And crikey, they were right!

Since it was launched, the New History Lab has been a tremendous success, attracting interesting speakers and providing fabulous cake to attendees. Friday 12 March was listed in the schedule as ‘The Secret Lecture’ but it can now be revealed that the guest will be none other than Lord Melvyn of Bragg.

A familiar face from 20+ years of The South Bank Show, Bragg is a respected historian who has presented numerous series on TV and radio and written many acclaimed books, both fiction and non-fiction. In recent years, he has particularly addressed the historical development of the English language.

He also wrote the screenplay for the film version of Jesus Christ Superstar, which is not widely known.

Rob from the New History Lab will interview Lord Bragg before opening up the event to questions from the audience. The usual cakes will be provided although it is not clear whether Melvyn will be joining the audience for the traditional post-Lab sojourn to the pub.

All tickets, alas, are already accounted for.
