Geography is our greenest department, evidently.

Seventeen teams within the University have received Green Impact Awards, a national scheme to recognise environmentally sound ideas and efforts. This is the first time that the University of Leicester has been involved with the Green Impact scheme and is part of our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint by 60% within the next ten years.

Our Department of Geography were the stars with a hat-trick of awards. They were the only department to received a Gold Award, they received a special award for Best Energy Saving Idea and Geography student Cassie Beedle won the Enviromental Hero award.

Fourteen other teams received Bronze Awards and two teams were acknowledged as ‘Working Towards’ an award at the ceremony last week. Our Student Development office received the Office Depot Innovation Award.

A second year of Green Impact projects will run from October 2010 to March 2011. Teasm within the University interested in taking part should contact the Environment Team.
