For the ninth year, the University of Leicester’s Botanic Garden hosts an exhibition of modern sculpture from around the world.

The theme of this year’s exhibition is ‘The Heart, Head and Hands’ and it has once again been curated by top sculptor (and Honorary Graduate of Leicester) John Sydney Carter. The sculptures will be on view from Sunday 27 June to Sunday 19 September and entry is free except on special event days.

All manner of hefty stone and metal shapes will be shipped to the Botanic Garden in Oadby and very carefully placed without disturbing any of the flowers – which is an impressive feat in itself. Among the 41 artists contributing the 64 sculptures are Terence Coventry, Ralph Brown, John W Mills, Jacek Wankowski, Richard Baronio, Charlotte Mayer, Helaine Blumenfeld and John Sydney Carter himself.

Our Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Robert Burgess, is a keen patron the arts and takes a personal interest in the exhibition. He will officially open this year’s Sculpture in the Garden on Saturday 26 June and the exhibition will be available for the public view from Sunday 27 June which is a Plant Sale and Family Day (garden open 11.00am ro 5.00pm, adults £3.50, children free).
