Requesting books, journals and other resources

We welcome purchase suggestions from academic staff for books, journals and electronic resources.

For individual book titles

Please complete the Library Order Form. This form is for academic staff to request that the Library buys new book titles we don’t already hold or other 'one off' items for research purposes.

For books to support teaching modules

If you use our web-based reading list system, readinglists@Leicester - you can send us information about the books you need without having to complete any forms.

Using the system has a number of key benefits:

  1. You can easily gather details of books and other resources from library catalogues, Amazon and publishers' websites

  2. We check your lists and order any items which the Library does not already have without you having to request it

  3. We will automatically check when student numbers change and order more copies of textbooks if required

  4. Your lists can be embedded in Blackboard if you wish

  5. Your students can get access from the reading list to electronic resources without having to use the Library Search

  6. They can also see what levels of print copies are available without leaving the system

If you wish to use the Library Order Form instead of making requests direct from readinglists@Leicester, we will ask that you provide module codes and numbers of students so that we can purchase materials to the correct quantity.

For individual journal titles, electronic or print

Check if the journal is already on the Journals Wishlist (login required).

If not, please contact your Librarian.

New journals can be funded by Departments providing the Library with additional funding to their Library allocation, or by cancellation of existing departmental subscriptions. Decisions on cancellations need to be made by September in any given year, and confirmed by the Department's Library representative.

Other electronic resources

This primarily means electronic databases which index the academic literature (such as Web of Science), which contain electronic publications (such as Early English Books Online) or both.

Check if the resource is already on the Electronic Resources Wishlist (login required).

If not, please contact your Librarian.

We will do our best to purchase your recommendation, but we cannot guarantee that every request will be met, as purchase is dependent on the availability of funds within a department's library allocation.
