University of Leicester
The open access policy applies to all peer reviewed articles and conference proceedings. There is no preferential open access option, both green and gold satisfy the requirements. There is no central, institutional fund available to cover the fees associated with gold option. Such funding is only available for RCUK or COAF funded research.
In order to comply with the University’s policy authors need to deposit the Author’s accepted manuscript (also known as post print) within three months from acceptance date using IRIS system

The seven UK Research Councils developed a single, uniform open access policy. The policy applies to all peer‐reviewed research articles and conference proceedings arising from RCUK funded research.
Compliant OA options:
Gold – The UKRI open access (OA) block grant for 2019/2020 has now been fully allocated and there are no further funds available. UKRI are currently reviewing their OA policy and we expect a public consultation in 2020 and new policy implementation during 2020.
The University Library open access team can assist you in meeting the UKRI OA policy requirements without having to pay a GOLD article processing charge (APC). Please contact for advice and further information is available in our Open Access Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Green – No costs are involved, however it’s researcher’s responsibility to deposit the accepted version of publication in institutional repository with maximum embargo of 6 months for STEM disciplines and 12 months HASS (research funded by AHRC and ESRC).
