The UKRI Open Access block Grant 2020/21 is open to applications.

The allocation of Article processing charges (APCs) (policy implemented 1st August 2019) is as follows:

We will pay and prioritise

  1. Full open access journals (in DOAJ and OASPA)
  2. Hybrid (subscription) journals with a green route embargo that is longer than that specified as compliant in the UKRI open access policy.

This means, if you can meet the requirements of the UKRI OA policy through the green archiving route* you must take this route. *Depositing your Final accepted manuscript through IRIS within 3 months of acceptance. This will be made publically available in accordance with the publishers conditions in the Leicester Research Archive (LRA).

If your publisher has an embargo length longer than specified below we will allocate funds

  • MRC/BBSRC – A publisher embargo of 6mths or less, green OA route must be taken
  • NERC/EPSRC/STFC/AHRC/ESRC – An embargo of 12 mths or less, green OA route must be taken

UKRI are currently reviewing their OA policy and we expect a public consultation in 2020 and new policy implementation during 2020.

The University Library open access team can assist you in meeting the UKRI OA policy requirements Please contact openaccess@leicester.ac.uk for advice and further information is available in our Open Access Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
