Special Collections

The library has several collections of interest to the modern historian, including:

  • Diplomatic Archive:
    Diplomatic, consular, foreign service and foreign ministry lists dating from 1950s-1990s transferred from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office Library.
  • Gorrie Collection:
    Political memorabilia of Archibald Gorrie (1885-1941) relating to the Labour movement in Leicestershire (1889-1909).
  • Leicester Mercury Archive:
    Photographic prints, negatives, cuttings files and other material from the newspaper library of the Leicester Mercury.
  • René MacColl Papers:
    Author and journalist (foreign correspondent) writing for Daily Telegraph and Daily Express in 1930s and 1940s.
  • Skinner Archive:
    Papers, photographs and slides, press cutting and articles, and correspondence on Leicester’s 19th century industrial heritage.
