Meet the Midlands Hub team

The UOSH Midlands Hub team is digitising, cataloguing and using sound recordings from across the Midlands.

From left to right:

Ruth Maguire is job sharing the role of Digitisation Hub Cataloguer with Sarah Wood. She completed the PGDip in Archives and Records Management in 2016 through distance learning at the University of Dundee. She has worked in archives since 2013, undertaking a number of cataloguing projects in that time. This is her first venture into cataloguing sound.

Colin Hyde is the Project Manager. Colin has been working with oral history archives since the 1980s and has extensive knowledge of collections across the region. For the last 10 years he has been managing the East Midlands Oral History Archive and has delivered many training sessions and talks to groups across the East Midlands. Colin also has an interest in local history in Leicester & Leicestershire, and photographing and recording urban environments.

Mandeep Kaur-Lakhan is the Hub Rights Officer for the UOSH Midlands Hub team. She has a background in the Heritage sector. Mandeep has an MA in Museum and Heritage Management (Nottingham Trent University) and an MA in Film and Film Cultures (University of Leicester). She has an interest in social history, moving image, film history and oral history collections. Mandeep has worked with collections at Leicester Arts and Museums, the Media Archive for Central England, the RAF Museum, Paintings in Hospitals and the East Midlands Oral History Archive. She is looking forward to listening to local sound collections from the project.

Richard Wheelband is the Hub Audio Preservation Engineer for the UOSH Midlands Hub team. Richard completed a BTEC in Music Technology in 2011 after a seven-year career in horology and progressed onto a Foundation Degree in Creative Sound Technology at Leicester College. He graduated in 2014 with a First Class Honours Degree in Music Technology from De Montfort University. Richard has an interest in location recording, audio restoration, film, photography, drumming and filmmaking and is an accomplished dialogue editor and sound recordist.

Sarah Wood is job sharing the role of Digitisation Hub Cataloguer with Ruth Maguire. For the last three years Sarah has worked as Assistant Archivist for the University’s Archives & Special Collections, which is responsible for the acquisition, management and care of the University’s archives and private archive collections. As part of this role she has catalogued two major literary archives: the archive collections of Joe Orton and Sue Townsend.

Previously Sarah has worked at Bishopsgate Institute & Library, and completed her MA in Archives & Records Management at UCL. Sarah is particularly interested in improving user engagement with archives and advocating their use to wider audiences. Originally from the Midlands, Sarah is excited to work with local sound collections and raise awareness of their potential as sound heritage.
