Majut Collection

Papers and books belonging to Rudolf Majut (1887-1981)

Rudolf Majut (1887-1981) bequeathed his library of some 6,000 books to the University of Leicester. The collection reflects Majut's interest in German culture - especially its language and literature.

At the start of his career Dr. Majut published on the Biedermeier period of nineteenth century German literature, especially the work of Georg Büchner. His interests were wide ranging, however, and his library reflects this. Philosophy and religion are also included.

MS 201
Majut Collection

Dr. Majut donated his library and papers to the University of Leicester in appreciation of the fact that the University had provided some help when he first came to England, following his escape from Nazi Germany. His papers have been included in the Manuscript Collection at MS 201. Further biographical papers were donated in 2005, following the death of his wife, Käthe Genetat.

Other literary papers of Rudolf Majut and of his brother Hans Majut are held in the Institute of Germanic and Romance Studies, London.

Access to the papers held by the University is via the Special Collections service. Print materials can be searched via the Library Search.
