Description

A range of different resources has been linked together to provide information on the changing face of Britain over time.

Specific resources include:

  • Population Statistics
    Information from UK Census returns, 1801-2001, including Registration reports.
  • Election Results
    Details of each constituency vote in every General Election and Parliamentary by-election since 1833.
  • Boundary Maps
    Administrative units can be searched by place-name, or by a specialised interface which allows searching by type of unit or wild card searches. Administrative units include Parliamentary Constituencies, from 1832 to the present; c.2,500 Registration sub-Districts; Urban and Rural Sanitary Districts; ecclesiastical areas.
  • Agriculture and Land Use
    Dudley Stamp’s Land Utilisation survey maps are available, as are returns from the annual farm census begun in 1866.
  • Historic Maps
    A collection of large-scale maps, including the first series Ordnance Survey maps.
  • Travel Writing
    A range of different authors from 12th century Gerald of Wales to 19th century Chartists and ramblers.
  • Learning Resources
    A suite of e-tutorials is available on key themes.
