Bloomberg is available on 15 PCs in Brookfield Training Room. The Bloomberg PCs have a multi-coloured Bloomberg keyboard.

There is also a bookable Bloomberg terminal in the Express Zone of the David Wilson Library.Students can book up to a two hour session using the Group Study Room Online Booking System.

Getting Started

To use the database log on to one of the PCs using your University IT account and open Bloomberg. Create an account with Bloomberg. Bloomberg will send you a confirmation code by email or SMS. Note: The phone signal in IT2 is very weak; you may need to go out of the room to receive your SMS.  Your confirmation code will only be valid for 20 minutes.

Choose a login name and password that you will remember.  You are advised NOT to use your IT password

Searching Bloomberg

Use the predictive text function to search. Simply start typing in the command line of a screen to bring up a list of relevant datasets and functions.

Searching Bloomberg via the Excel add-on

On the Bloomberg terminal, ensure that all office applications are closed.  Go to Start -> Bloomberg -> Click on ‘Install Office add-ins’.  On the next pop-up window click 'Install'.  That should install the add-in for your session.  You will need to do this every session.

Getting help

Bloomberg provides online support to help you use the database.

  1. Help button: press the green Help button once for page-specific support. Press the Help button twice to get support from a Bloomberg operative.
  2. Cheat sheets: these are 2-page guides in PDF format which can help you search.  They are available in a number of languages.  To find them, type CHEAT into the command line and press Go.
  3. Online training and qualifications
    A) Bloomberg Market Concepts: a course on Economic Indicators, Fixed
    Income, Currencies and Equities. Takes approximately 8 hours. Quizzes
    at the end of each section test your understanding and you get a
