Covid-19 Library Advice

The David Wilson Library building currently remains closed for study and access to collections. However, the Library is starting to phase in resumption of its building based services including click and collect, returns, Archives and Special Collections consultations and appointments, postal loans and bookable study spaces.

We continue to provide many of our services digitally, including access to eBooks, eJournals and databases. The Library’s email enquiry services remains open and you can book a 1-2-1 virtual support session with a librarian, research consultant or an academic skills advisor.

Click and Collect

Click and Collect for Academic staff and postgraduate researchers began on the 29th July. The extension of this service to postgraduate taught course students will be phased in from Monday 17th August.

Book Returns

The book drop at the front of the Library may be used by University Staff and students to return their books from 10 am Monday 10th August.

Consultation and Appointments for Archives and Special Collections

Archives and Collections are starting a consultation and appointment booking service for Academic Staff and postgraduate researchers from Wednesday 12th August

Postal Loans for Distance Learners

The resumption of the postal loans for registered Distance Learners will be phased in from Monday 17th August.

Bookable Study Spaces

Bookable study spaces for academic staff and postgraduate researchers will be phased from Monday 17th August.

Is the Library open?

How can I access online material?

Use Library Search on the Library Homepage to search and access digital library resources. You will need to use your IT username and password. If you have any problems please email library@le.ac.uk.

Do I need to return my books?

All loans will continue to renew automatically. You may receive a recall email but this can be ignored. There will be no fines during this period.

Can I return my books?

University staff and students can return their books through the book drop at the front of the David Wilson Library from 10 am Monday 10th August.

Can I still place holds on physical items?

Continue to place your requests and we will try to find an electronic version which we will supply to you.

Can I still make inter-library loan requests?

Continue to place your requests and we will try to fulfil them electronically where we can obtain them.

How can I get help from library staff?

Can I register to use the library?

We are not accepting new registrations or renewing existing ones from non University of Leicester Staff or Students, including students from other universities wishing to join via SCONUL Access.

Can I visit and use other university libraries for my studies/research?

Please check the visiting university’s website for details of their access arrangements.

Can I visit Archives and Special Collections?

Our Archives and Special Collections is closed however a consultation and appointment booking service will begin on Wednesday 12th August for Academic staff and postgraduate researchers. Please direct any enquiries to library@le.ac.uk.
