Turning the Pages™

British Library exhibition arrives at Leicester

The David Wilson Library is currently hosting the British Library’s Turning the Pages exhibition which is touring selected UK academic libraries during 2008.

The exhibition is on display on the ground floor of the David Wilson Library until Tuesday 15th July.

Turning the Pages is an award-winning interactive display of digitized texts. The exhibition gives visitors the chance to take a closer look at some of the finest works held by the British Library.

The exhibition is designed to showcase some of the British Libraries finest treasures, and to illustrate the way in which digitized versions of texts can enhance the research and learning experience.

As an example, let’s look at Mozart’s Thematic Catalogue, one of the sixteen electronic texts which form part of the exhibition. To access the text, simply press on the touch screen. Listen to the music which appears in musical notation on any given page by pressing on the music icon. Magnify any part of the image on screen using an electronic “magnifying glass.” Text and voice-over commentaries provide historical context to each on-screen page.

This travelling exhibition complements the web-based “Treasures in Full” section of the BL web site: http://www.bl.uk/treasures/treasuresinfull.html
