What is Aurora?

Aurora is a women-only leadership development programme launched in November 2013 by the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education. Aurora aims to encourage a wide range of women in academic and professional roles to think of themselves as leaders, to develop their leadership skills, and to help institutions maximise the potential of these women.

Aurora addresses the following core areas of leadership success:

  • Understanding organisations and the sector
  • Developing leadership behaviours, skills and knowledge
  • Identifying and overcoming barriers and obstacles
  • Growing confidence and a leadership identity
  • Building networks, coalitions and support processes

Who is it aimed at?

It is designed for women at lecturer/research fellow and senior lecturer/fellow level and professional services equivalent (grades 7-9) who would like to develop their careers and explore avenues to leadership.

The University's Aurora Champion

The proposal that the University should become involved in Aurora came from the University's Athena SWAN Working Group, chaired by Professor Paul Cullis who serves as Leicester's Aurora Champion alongside Dr. Leigh Casey, Associate Director of Organisational Development.
