Restructuring of the Academic Year: Your views sought by LUCU

Union asks for members opinions on proposals to restructure academic year

We have been informed that 2 papers will be circulated, one on the proposed restructuring of the academic year and one on proposals to standardise modules. It is hoped that these papers will be finalised and sent to staff within the next 10 days or so.

Each will provide details of a series of consultation events.

We are informed that;

• there will be five consultation workshops during September and October, open to all staff,
• a website and dedicated email address through which all staff can provide comments on the specific proposals and recommendations.
• There will also be meetings with the management boards and academic committees of all of the colleges.

UCU encourages all staff to engage in as many of these discussions as possible to ensure that all matters are considered and to also provide feedback to us. We will seek to do the same from contractual and other employment related perspectives.

We understand that after this, a set of recommendations will be presented to Senate, based on the outcome of the consultations and meetings.

We hope this helps and if anyone has any queries, please do not hesitate to let us know.
