Leicester Mercury get Vaughan news before staff

Letter to Vice-Chancellor & HR;
The trade unions have learnt that the Leicester Mercury was informed by the University yesterday that ULT will recommend the disestablishment of Vaughan after the 90 day consultation with staff. This information was given to the press before the staff or the unions were made aware of the situation.

The trade unions would like to express their disappointment and disbelief that such a recommendation from the ULT should be communicated in this manner, and that the ULT have made this recommendation public prior to the University Council on 16th September, where a final decision with regards to the future of Vaughan is to be considered.

The unions and staff had hoped that management would have informed the affected parties of their recommendation, and of their responses to staff counter proposals before contacting the press. The unions are particularly disappointed in how this communication of this news has been handled, especially at this last stage of the process which determines whether staff will retain their jobsGiven the public support and significant staff input to find alternatives to the proposal to close Vaughan, it is disrespectful and unfair to the people affected.
