Preceded by the official Opening of the Literary Leicester Festival by Professor Sir Robert Burgess, Vice-Chancellor, University of Leicester.

Sarah Knight, Philip Shaw, director Ben Spiller and actor Christopher Macauley offer new perspectives on Richard III in a panel discussion, a reconstruction of Richard III’s language and a theatrical reading from Shakespeare’s play.

Sarah Knight is Senior Lecturer in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature in the School of English, University of Leicester. She is translating Milton’s Latin student writing for the new Oxford Complete Works, and has published widely on early modern students and university life.

Philip Shaw lectures in English Language and Old English. He has published on a range of areas of medieval language and literature, including hairstyles in Old English literature, Anglo-Saxon coin inscriptions and Norse mythography.

Ben Spiller is artistic director of 1623 Theatre Company, an award-winning theatre company that's all about seeing Shakespeare differently.

Christopher Macauley is an actor based in the East Midlands. He recently graduated from 1623 Theatre Company's trainee actors course.
