Past Joint Respiratory Research Days

3rd May 2017

On 3rd May 2017, the Joint Respiratory Research Day took place at the Clinical Sciences Building at Nottingham City Hospital (programme attached). This event was held in conjunction with the University of Leicester, the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Centre for Respiratory Research, Nottingham Respiratory Research Unit and Leicester Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit. It was an opportunity for people to talk about the research they have been involved in and for delegates to meet and discuss their work in respiratory medicine. Delegates were treated to presentations and a talk by key note speaker Professor Jacky Smith of University of Manchester. 

4th May 2016

On Wednesday 4th May 2016, the Joint Respiratory Research Day took place at Stamford Court in Leicestershire (brochure attached). This event was held in conjunction with the University of Leicester, the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Centre for Respiratory Research, Nottingham Respiratory Research Unit and Leicester Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit. It was an opportunity for people to talk about the research they have been involved in and for delegates to meet and discuss their work in respiratory medicine. Delegates were treated to presentations and a talk by key note speaker Professor Debbie Jarvis of Imperial College, London.  The 2016 Wendy Stannard Prize for best presentation was awarded to Dr Cathryn Weston of University of Leicester and best poster was awarded to Sangita Bhaker of University of Nottingham.

6th May 2015

The annual Joint Leicester and Nottingham Respiratory Research day was held for the first time in Nottingham this year. The day was very well attended with 150 registered delegates.  The keynote address was given by Professor Sebastian Johnston from University College London entitled “Mechanisms of asthma exacerbations” which stimulated some interesting discussion.  A total of 14 young researchers gave oral presentations and 28 posters were also presented.  The Wendy Stannard prize for best oral presentation was awarded to Debbie Clements "Recruitment of Fibroblasts in Pulmonary Lymphangioleiomyomatosis"

7th May 2014

The University of Leicester Respiratory Dept, Institute for Lung Health & Leicester Respiratory BRU along with The University of Nottingham Respiratory Science held the Annual Joint Respiratory Research Day on Wednesday 7th May 2014, at Holywell Park, Loughborough  The Keynote speaker was Professor Eric Alton of Imperial College London on 'Moving gene therapy for cystic fibrosis into the clinic'

The University of Leicester Respiratory Dept, Institute for Lung Health & Leicester Respiratory BRU along with The University of Nottingham Respiratory Science  held the Annual Joint Respiratory Research Day on Wednesday 4th September 2013, Holywell Park, Loughborough 

2nd May 2012

The Respiratory Science Research Day which took place on 2nd May 2012 at Holywell Park in Loughborough, was a great success with 180 registrations, 16 oral presentations and 22 poster presentations.

Institute for Lung Health Patron Professor Dame Margaret Turner-Warwick presented the Wendy Stannard Prize for best oral presentation 2012 to Amanda Tatler from the University of Nottingham for her presentation entitled 'Enhanced Integrin αvβ6 Expression via Transcriptional Regulation of the β6 Subunit via Smad3 but Not Smad2'.

 Our keynote speaker, Professor Paul Corris from the Newcastle University, gave an excellent presentation entitled 'Bossing Bos'.

Best poster presentation winner: Vitor Fernandes from the University of Leicester - 'Genetic Basis of Susceptibility to Invasive Pneumococcal Disease (IPD)'
