BiographyNeda Nazem-Abadi

My name is Neda Nezam-Abadi. I received my undergraduate degree in General Biology from Azad University, Science and Research Branch, Tehran, Iran; and my Master’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Essex. I am now working towards my PhD in Microbiology here at the University of Leicester. My PhD project is focused on trying to isolate and characterise bacteriophage (viruses that infect bacteria) of Legionella spp, with the aim of using these viruses in both diagnosis of Legionella spp. associated disease, such as legionnaires disease, and its treatment. In trying to identify these bacteriophage, my work is uses both traditional microbiology methodologies as well as harnessing molecular information using bioinformatics based approaches. My poster illustrates how I have used both of these approaches to try and find bacteriophage and how I would apply my research as a diagnostic in Legionella spp. associated disease.
