Apply for MODREC review

The Ministry of Defence Research Ethics Committees (MODREC) provide ethical scrutiny of research funded or sponsored by the Ministry of Defence

All research within the University which involves human participants is subject to the University's ethical review processes.

Applying for MODREC approval

Research which is funded or sponsored by the Ministry of Defence is governed by the MOD Policy for Research Involving Human Participants. This document sets out the conditions for all investigators conducting research involving human participants in MOD research and the process for assessing research protocols.

Information on how to apply for ethical approval by MODREC may be found on GOV.UK, along with the procedure, required application form, guidance on making the application and a useful checklist to determine whether you need MODREC approval.

Ethical scrutiny of MOD research

If you are undertaking research involving human participants which is funded or sponsored by the MOD, you may need ethical approval from the MOD Research Ethics Committees (MODREC). Not all human research needs MODREC approval: you should use their checklist to determine whether you need to submit an application. No MOD research may commence until the study has received formal MODREC approval.
