Outreach and Public Engagement

The University of Leicester is committed to engaging with the public and particularly with students as part of our openness. The Division of Biomedical Services regularly support work experience placements, students studying veterinary practice and school visits. They are also actively engaged in having a presence at conferences supporting the scientific community.
Brain Awareness Week 2019
Brain, Behaviour and Beyond - 13 March 2019
Family Open Days
Staff members have had the opportunity to show their friends and family our the facility to enable them to gain an understanding on biomedical research and the environment that they work in.
Work Experience Placements
Work experience placements can be offered between 1 - 5 days during a working week. This is aimed at students particularly studying sciences at A Level. However if students have a particular interest in working with animals in a laboratory environment we would also be happy to accommodate such requests.
Presentations to Schools
Staff members have visited schools to deliver a presentation on Understanding Animal Research as part of the schools STEM learning timetable, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
School Visits
During National Science Week (15-24 March 2014) local schools were invited to have a tour of the research facilities, meet scientists and veterinarians, and see the animals at the center of biomedical research, in order to communicate the medical benefits of animal research.
