Alena Matejka PhD MA

alena-matejkova.jpg

Alena Matejka passionately designs and personally creates with a pneumatic hammer huge sculptures from stone, marble, glass or even ice. At the same time she works as a bricklayer; for example, she has converted her house in an unusual way, proceeding intuitively, without building plans, in an organic way as if it were an artistic object or dwelling sculpture.

She loves stone structures in Brittany and Norman tombs in Scotland and old architecture as such. She has used genuine imprints in her reliefs and three-dimensional objects. At the same time she has the capacity to let herself be enchanted by neon colors and the quivering softness of synthetic materials in bags and clothes. She also reads, studies and recently has expanded her operations to the academic soil, examining processes of melting glass in microwave ovens, leading to a Doctoral Degree at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.
