'Creating Safe Spaces'

13 September 2018, 6:00 – 7:00

Venue: Curve Theatre, Rutland Street,  Leicester, LE1 1SB
Speaker: Maureen Beattie (President, Equity)

“So what happens now? How do we change the atmosphere in the entertainment industry so radically that the perpetrators of sexual harassment and bullying can find no oxygen for their behaviour? We have earned a brief period of grace in the wake of the high profile scandals that have unfolded over the past year, but the would be harassers and bullies haven’t gone away: they’re just lurking in the shadows. When they finally re-emerge blinking in the light Equity, with its Agenda for Change and Safe Spaces campaign, will be waiting for them.”

We're delighted that Maureen Beattie will be giving CAMEo’s latest public lecture on 13 September. She'll be discussing how the atmosphere in the entertainment industry can and should change in light of #MeToo and explaining how Equity's Agenda for Change and Safe Spaces campaign has contributed to industry changes.

About the speaker:

Maureen graduated  from what is now The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 1974 and she has been working as an actor and director ever since. She joined the Council of Equity, the entertainment workers union, in 2014 and last year led the union's working party on sexual harassment which produced The Agenda for Change and the Creating Safe Spaces campaign. This year she became Equity's second ever female President.
