Explore the arts with us in our creative studios and new galleries, supported by artists and staff, tailoring access to your requirements.

Sessions and workshops are available for schools, groups, families and individuals – all are welcome to take part and learn. Complete an Arts award with us, achieve your school’s Artsmark, and join our Young Ambassadors’ programme – there are lots of ways for you to get involved. Email arts-education@le.ac.uk to find out more.

We are also working on Unlocking the World through Arts: A Sensory Atelier funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation explores new ways to learn, discover and develop in two Leicestershire special schools. To find out more click here

Our Inclusive Youth Arts Programme funded by BBC Children in Need provides FREE workshops and performances for children and young people aged 0 - 18 years old with complex disabilities and needs from Leicester and Leicestershire.

See our feature on British Council Arts as we talk about our Sensory suitcases. These are a wonderful enhancement to your visit, and allow you to get closer to the artworks and explore them more fully without touching. Suitcases change with each exhibition, but each suitcase contains specially picked objects to help give you a more tactile tour of the artworks. They contain objects like samples of materials used, sensory play toys, tools used to make artworks, samples of colours and textures used in the artworks and objects and information to help you to access the artworks better. Ask for one at our front of house on arrival.

While we are on isolation, our team have produced learning resources designed for young people with SEND to explore at home. With messy activities, painting, cutting out and sticking, it's a perfect way to keep your creative juices flowing during this odd time.

Start - the Princes Foundation for Children and the Arts

  • teacher start.jpg
  • We are working with Catherine Infants School, Bridge Junior School and New College Leicester for 3 years on an exciting programme of gallery visits, artist workshops and residencies and activities in school, supporting children to achieve Arts Awards and schools on their Artsmark journeys. Generously funded by The Princes Foundation for Children and the Arts and University of Leicester, the Start programme gives children and young people new ways to learn through the contemporary arts, working with professional artists and opportunities to get creative. Teachers are also supported through a tailored CPD programme, and the work is celebrated throughout our venue.
