Jonathan Flower, MA (2011-2013)

Jon FlowerI spent one year at the University of Leicester studying the MA in Urban history. I chose the course as I had enjoyed learning about the role of the city in a historical context as an undergraduate and wished to study it in more detail.  I therefore chose to study at the University of Leicester as it has an excellent reputation for urban study and the modules on offer appealed to me and were related to the themes I wished to explore more.

The structure of the modules ensured that I gained a good understanding of the city in history as well as developing my historical methodology, for example the Urban Topographies module offered the chance to study how towns, cities and their architecture have developed through the centuries, and the Historical Research Methods module meant that I was able to put into practise different techniques of historical study leading up to producing my dissertation.

I am currently working as a Teaching Assistant in a school with the intention of undertaking a PGCE to become a History teacher, the course has meant that I have furthered my historical knowledge and methodology, developing my analytical, communication and written skills to a level where I feel confident to continue an academic career in history.
