Brief Biography:

Zara began her PhD in 2013 and is a part-time student. She combines her studies with a project management role at the University of Warwick. Zara has fifteen years of work experience in the education sector where she has undertaken a variety of learning development, teaching and project management roles. She completed her MBA in 2014 and developed an interest in family sociology through her MBA dissertation which investigated the experiences of women returning to work after taking maternity leave.

Research Interests:

Zara’s thesis focuses on the experiences of same-sex parenting. Her work is investigating how lesbian mothers construct social support networks for themselves, both within specific lesbian subcultures and also in wider society. She is particularly interested in issues of bio-genetic family connection, social capital and questions of inclusion in 21st century definitions of homonormative family creation.
