PhD Topic

American Nativism: A Corpus-Driven Discourse Analysis on Immigrants, Refugees and Asylum Seekers in National Broadsheets

Brief Description of PhD topic

The aim of the research project is to study how language is used in American national broadsheets to construct discourses relating to immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers in the United States. I am particularly interested in the construction of discourses of nativism, illegalisation of immigrants, the ‘migrant crisis’ and moral panic.
