Brief Biography:

I completed a Bsc (hons) in Sociology at Bath Spa University and then a MA in Women’s Studies at the University of York. I then trained to teach within the post-compulsory sector and began teaching sociology in further education institutions. Alongside my teaching I completed a MA in Education with Nottingham Trent University. I began a part-time PhD with the University of Leicester in 2012.

Research Interests:

My PhD focuses on ageing women punks but my research interests more broadly are the body, gender and subcultures. I also continue to hold an interest in issues concerning gender and education.

Publications:

  • Way, L. (2014) ‘Playing a-minor in the punk scene? Exploring the articulation of identity by older women punks’ in The Subcultures Network (ed) Fight back. Punk, politics and resistance. Manchester: University Press.
  • Manicom, L. (2011) ‘Does Gender Impact Upon Proteges’ Perception of a Mentor’s Role?’ in Research into Teaching. Published by Nottingham Trent University.

Other Activities:

I’ve been playing bass in bands since I was 14. Badly.
