PhD Topic

Exploring Socio-Spatial Dynamics of Queer Nightlife Spaces (Second Year of Study)

Details of Research

I am a second year PhD researcher who is interested in all things relating to sexuality and spaces. More specifically, I am currently researching the socio-spatial dynamics of queer nightlife spaces in Leicester with a focus on LGBTQ+ identities, political mobilisation and consumption, as well as resistances and negotiations of unwanted sexual attention in these spaces of the night-time economy. My work is utilising interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological frameworks across sociology, criminology, feminist activism and queer geographies to contribute novel qualitative research understandings of these spaces and the meanings that those partaking in them give to their experiences.

PhD Supervisors

I presented a paper titled 'Exploring Intersectional Experiences of Queer Nightlife' at the ESRC Midlands Graduate School Conference, University of Leicester, June 2019.

I presented a paper for a panel discussion in the session 'Making Space for Queer Youth in Heteronormative Leisure Spaces' at the 5th European Geographies of Sexualities Conference, Charles University, Prague, September 2019.
