Public exhibition of posters and graphic design, supported by Leicester's Department of Sociology, the BSA and Joe Williams

University of Leicester will host a Charity Art Exhibition and wine reception to showcase the political and social power of graphic design.

The exhibition, a collaboration between Oli Williams and Rose Holyoak from the Department of Sociology, the British Sociological Association (BSA) and London based designer, Joe Williams, will run alongside the ‘Youth Activism and Resistance’ conference.

Oli Williams said:

"Posters democratise art and have the power to bring political messages to the masses. We want to celebrate the accessibility and power of this medium by exhibiting the work of up and coming artists and designers on the themes of ‘Youth Activism and Resistance’.

The event will bring together the public, students, academics and young activists from a range of campaigns.

Oli continued: "By coming to the event, you'll have the chance to engage with important issues, own a piece of original artwork from up-and-coming designers and support organisations doing impressive work to promote social justice."

Original A2 works (£50), A3 reproductions (£10) and a range of other related items will be on sale at the event with all the money raised being donated to two relevant organisations in Envision ( and Green & Black Cross (

Designer Joe Williams, whose project Act With Love (AWL) aims to demonstrate the philanthropic power of branding and design, said:

"This exhibition will show how creative people can use their talent not just for commercial and purely ascetic projects, but can be thought-provoking and encourage people to engage socially."
