University of Leicester senior lecturer in Sociology Jane Pilcher invited to support Campaign for Social Sciences new pre Election report

With the next general election just 13 months away, and a government spending review shortly after, these are vital times for anyone concerned about government higher education policy and the future of research budgets.

University of Leicester senior lecturer in Sociology Jane Pilcher will be joining the Campaign for Social Science, as they bring together experts across disciplines, to produce a high level report in the next 9 months.

“I’m honoured to have been asked to collaborate on a Campaign for Social Science report on the economic, social and public policy contribution of the social sciences”, said Jane.

‘The hope is that through the report, influential people, especially in government and business, will hear what social scientists are already doing and can do in the future to help policy makers meet the economic, social and environmental challenges facing the UK.”

Jane continues: “I was asked to join the working group because of my work on Social Worlds in 100 Objects, which helps people see everyday objects in a new way, using social sciences.”

‘I feel very privileged to be in this role. It gives me the opportunity to influence - at a national level – key opinion formers in government, business, higher education and the media and help ensure the importance of social science is recognised and continues to be valued.”
