Learn How to Ride Sessions for Women

Women in bicyles

Starting on 27 August 2016, we are offering a free six-week course for local women to learn how to cycle. The course will be held at the Moat Community College, Maidstone Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE2 0TU.

This is a female-only course, taught by women, and it takes full account of important cultural sensitivities. Complete beginners are welcome. You don’t even need your own bicycle – they are provided! The course will be led by Unsung Hero Award Winner and qualified local cycling instructor Maryam Amatullah.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are interested to learn to ride a bike, boost their confidence and enjoy the outdoors. Participants can also gain additional set of skills, such as team working skills, leadership skills, communication skills, that they can add in their CV.

Everyone who completes the course will receive a certificate to celebrate their involvement. There will also be an opportunity to buy or take the bicycle for a day loan. The course is supported by Sport England, Community Cycles Leicester and the Unit for Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement (DICE) at the University of Leicester.

Dwight Hove from the Community Cycles Leicester believes that "cycling encourages community cohesion as it brings together people from different backgrounds and cultures."

"It is a environmentally friendly form of transport. It helps improve health and mental well being. Cycling promotes community integration as it is available to all regardless of sex, race or religion."

You can find out more about the project and to register for the course, contact Maryam Amatullah at communitycycles14@gmail.com or ring: (+44) 0799 076 2684.

All participants are required to attend all six sessions.
