Between April 19-21 2017, DICE hosted a 3-day visit to Leicester for academics and practitioners as part of the ERASMUS-funded Ethics4Sport initiative. Our guests came from Spain, Italy, France, and Germany and were here to discuss if and how we can proceed to produce a generic code of ethics for recreational sport across Europe.

As part of the study visit DICE also organised a public event, a panel of people involved in British professional sport, who answered questions from the ERASMUS group and members of the Leicester public about fairness and ethics in professional sport. These questions included: should we expect professionals in sport to act as role models and adopt the same ethical code as people who play sport for fun?

Among the Panel members was: George Chuter, ex-Tigers and England rugby union international; Wasim Khan ex-cricketer and now CEO at the Leicestershire County Cricket Club; Sussi Maguire, ex-international basketball player; Arun Kang, CEO at Sporting Equals; and Rob Paternostro, coach of Leicester Riders Basketball Club.

The meeting provoked lively debate and has already informed the discussions of the E4S group.
