November 2018-January 2019

On Friday 18th January 2019, DICE and Sporting Equals concluded the first LeaderBoard Academy, with an impressive first-time cohort of 17 scholars completing the three-day programme. LeaderBoard Academy was jointly run by DICE, the University of Leicester’s Unit for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement, and Sporting Equals, the only organisation in the UK existing to promote ethnic diversity across sport and physical activity. Scholars from across the UK gathered at University of Leicester to engage in learning, discussion and networking to excel as BAME leaders in sport governance.

Amongst the full timetable were masterclasses and Q&As with an impressive list of sport personalities, including Wasim Khan MBE, Nigel Walker, Paul Elliott, and Christine Ohuruogu MBE. The repertoire of sport excellence was also represented amongst the brilliant cohort of scholars, with many holding experience of elite level sport themselves.

In keeping with DICE mission of engaging local community, scholars were given an exclusive tour of Leicester City Football Club, and whilst being in the same spot as Jamie Vardy was enough of a highlight for some, participants were also given in-depth insight into the Club’s diversity and inclusion agenda from the Club’s senior management team.
