DICE 2nd Annual Lecture
Yasmin Alibhai-Brown offered her own insight and experiences of belonging in Britain. She described Britain as a place where multiculturalism was embraced and widely celebrated, and she used a number of enlightening historical examples. She also considered the challenges of belonging and how it fits with diversity and equality questions in 21st century Britain. Yasmin encouraged people in the audience to think critically about ways of accommodating and celebrating difference and protecting human rights. In this she was highly critical of the decision taken in the Brexit referendum. After the lecture ended there was a lively exchange between members of the audience and the speaker which was only curtailed by the lack of time.
