Research Ethics

Does your Research Involve Human Subjects?

Any student or staff member carrying out research involving human subjects needs to read the university guidance on research ethics and fill in the online application form. This includes the use or collection of any human data and records (such as, but not restricted to medical, genetic, financial, personnel, criminal or administrative records and test results including scholastic achievements).

Further information on submitting an application is available on the University Ethics webpages.

If you are carrying out interviews, you will need to put together a Word icon participation information form, and an Word icon informed consent form, and attach them to your online application.

Please make sure you select the correct status when filling in your research ethics application form. Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught (Masters), or Postgraduate Research (PhD).

Online Application Form

If you have any queries about Research ethics in the first instance you should contact your dissertation tutor, or the Departmental Ethics Officer (for Distance Learning MA students this is Dr David Strachan-Morris. For PhD students and Campus MA students this is Dr Laura Brace).
