Richard Whitaker was invited to speak at a European Parliament Press Service seminar in Brussels on 4 February 2015. His talk covered the rise of Eurosceptic parties at the 2014 European Parliament elections and the so-called Spitzenkandidaten process through which candidates for the Commission Presidency were put forward by transnational parties. He explained that – for voters – economic issues dominated the elections. However, the Spitzenkandidaten process did not invigorate the voting public in the way that many had hoped it would.

A clip of his contribution can be found here.
