PhD Opportunities in Theoretical Astrophysics

The Theoretical Astrophysics Group (TAG) is typically able to offer 2-3 fully-funded PhD studentship positions each year. We also welcome applications from international students who have already arranged their own funding, and from self-funded students of all nationalities. For further information on applying, and application forms, please visit the Departmental Postgraduate Study page.

Detailed information about available funding for PhD positions is given on the Departmental PhD funding page.

PhD Projects

The current list of projects and supervisors is available here. However, as our research expertise and interests cover a broad range of topics, a PhD project in other areas of our research programme may be available - informal enquiries about alternative projects should be directed either to the relevant member of staff (see the research interests of staff members here), or to the TAG's postgraduate admissions tutor Dr Chris Nixon.

Theoretical Astrophysics PhD students at Leicester have substantial access to world-class High Performance Computing facilities. Previous students of the Theoretical Astrophysics group have been very successful in obtaining positions both within astronomy and in industry.
