Research Programmes
The SRC carries out a very broad programme of research, in collaboration with other research groups both in and outside the University (both nationally and internationally), focussing on the following areas:
- Planetary science
- High Speed Imaging
- X-ray, optical, and IR sensors
- X-ray optics and polarimeters
- Life detection instrumentation
- Gamma-ray instrumentation
- Thermal and fast neutron detection
- Additive Manufacturing Techniques for Space Systems
In keeping with a tradition stretching back over five decades, we combine an understanding of the basic device physics with first rate engineering design in order to produce instruments that are competitive on the world stage. This work is supported by a number of test facilities, dedicated laboratories, expert teams and computational systems:
- Bioimaging Unit
- Cryogenics Laboratory
- Planetary and AIV Laboratory
- Mission Modelling Unit
- Solid-State Laboratory
- Microchannel Plate Laboratory
- Long Beam Optics Laboratory
- Space Research Centre Engineering
