Planetary Systems of Evolved Stars
This RAS specialist discussion meeting has been organised by Dr Sarah Casewell University of Leicester), Dr Matt Burleigh (University of Leicester) and Prof. Boris Gaensicke (University of Warwick) and will review our current understanding of the evolution and survival of solar systems during the post main sequence phase, encompassing debris disks and planetary and substellar companions to sub giants, hot subdwarfs, white dwarfs and neutron stars.
International meetings in Bamberg, Germany (2010) and Arecibo, Puerto Rico (January 2012) have highlighted the growing interest in this new field among both observers and theoreticians. There is strong UK involvement, with at least half a dozen groups active in this hot topic, not least through exploiting data from the UKIDSS, VISTA and SuperWASP surveys, and looking forward to the GAIA, JWST, Plato and EChO missions. This meeting aims to have a few review talks, but the majority of presentations will be on new results and discussions of how we can further our understanding in this field.
The meeting will be held at the Geological Society, Burlington House, Picadilly, London.
