A Catalyst for White Dwarf Pollution from Full-Lifetime Multiple Massive Planet Simulations

We perform novel full-lifetime simulations of two massive planets from the endpoint of formation, through every post-main-sequence (MS) phase, to several Gyr into the white dwarf (WD) phase.  We find that the planets can remain on stable orbits throughout their MS and post-MS lives until, at observed polluted WD cooling ages, the system can finally become unstable.  The outer planet can be ejected while the inner planet is perturbed inward and remains on a highly eccentric orbit close to the WD, or crashes into it.
