Current Research Areas

  • Characterising regimes of land stress across the Indo-Gangetic Plains using Earth Observation Datatsets

  • Towards an integrated approach for assessing the impact of climatic stresses on agriculture and the exchange of greenhouse gases on the Indo-Gangetic Plain

  • Development of CH4 satellite retrievals using GOSAT Thermal Infrared (TIR) spectra

  • Verification of global chemical transport models (CTMs) using short-wave (SWIR), TIR satellite, ground-based & aircraft observations

  • Detection of aerosols (volcanic and wildfire) and reactive gases from thermal sensors (H2SO4, SO2, VOCs, CO,NH3)

  • Land Surface Temperature (LST) retrievals and cloud detection methods for (A)ATSR, SLSTR

  • Monitoring Atmospheric Composition and Climate (MACC-III)
  • GAUGE: Greenhouse gAs Uk and Global Emissions (NERC-funded)
  • A(ATSR) cloud detection methods over land (NERC-funded)
  • ESA CAMELOT (Composition of the Atmospheric Mission concEpts and SentineL Observation Techniques) study of the user requirements for ESA Sentinel 4 and 5 (precursor) missions
  • ESA MIPclouds project - building a retrieval processor for the retrieval of macro- and microphysical cloud parameters from MIPAS
