On Saturday 30 November, Burleighs Gin, with the help of some University of Leicester Physics undergraduates, postgraduates and staff, hosted a gin and science event for members of the public to attend. The event was a great chance for the attendees to see science in action, all the while enjoying gin, cocktails and more gin!

The night started off with welcome drinks and canapés, where all the guests could mingle with each other, talking about their love of both gin and science. They then had opportunity to be part of a Burleighs gin masterclass, followed by a hot buffet meal. The meal ended with a deliciously cold dessert – liquid nitrogen ice cream, which was made in front of their very eyes by the volunteers from the University of Leicester School of Physics and Astronomy. They listened to a talk given by one of the Physics PhD students and then the night finished with the guests going around four interactive experiences (hosted by the University of Leicester). These included a show in the University’s own planetarium, creating their own comets, playing with liquid nitrogen, meteors and superconducting magnets!

We hope everyone who attended enjoyed the science, and the gin of course! Keep an eye out for news of similar ones in the future!
